Chapter I Up and About

1. apoplectic         loss of muscular control and sensation
2. apprentices     unpaid workers who learn a trade or craft
3. arrogantly       boastfully
4. crucible           porcelain dish used for melting silver
5. ethereal         airy; fragile
6. flaccid             lacking in vigor or energy
7. parasitic         taking advantage of others without return
8. protuberant     swelling outward; bulging

Chapter II The Pride of Your Power

1. abated         reduced in amount
2. berated       rebuked; scolded
3. mundane     ordinary
4. piety             reverence
5. poultice       dressing for a wound or injury
6. reproved     found fault with
7. tediously     slowly; in a boring manner

Chapter III An Earth of Brass

1. averted             turned away
2. belligerent     eager to fight; hostile
3. imperceptibly     hardly noticed
